How secure is data sharing via email?

Document exchange is often done via e-mail. Login credentials for website or other systems are sent to clients, basic contracts are shared to go through for signature, but how secure is that really? After all, e-mail can be intercepted by third parties, and since it is not sent encrypted, the data sent is quickly out in the open.

With compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDG), also known internationally as GDPR, you need to have protocols in place about storing and sharing (personal) data. Document sharing is obviously part of this. If email is not secure, how do you share files and data with your contacts?

An alternative to sharing documents through an encrypted structure is through a secure cloud storage solution. Because the data can be stored encrypted on ISO certified servers. This prevents your data from being allowed to be transferred to other parties through the back door. The data can be shared by the administrator of the cloud solution with the contacts who have been granted access to it. This allows you as an attorney or web administrator to share (login) data without others having access to it.

So secure and easy data management is indeed possible and quickly achievable, however, not via e-mail.
