Getting started with the Plesk firewall
Your Plesk VPS has at its disposal a nice module to manage Firewall rules. Read below how to get started with it.
Getting started with the Plesk firewall
First, we’re going to enable the Plesk firewall:
- Make sure you are logged into Plesk (see the email Your new VPS is ready to use)
- Click on Extensions
- Search for Firewall and then click on Get It Free
- Click on Open
- Click on the slider next to Firewall Protection
- In the pop-up, click Apply
Manage firewall rules
Now that the Plesk firewall is enabled, you can manage the firewall in two ways:
- Modify existing policies and rules, including default settings.
- Create and delete custom rules.
Modify an existing policy or rule
- Click on the policy or rule you want to modify.
- Make the desired changes, click Save, click on Apply Changes and then on Apply.
The firewall configuration changes are now in effect.
Creating a custom rule
- Click on the plus icon.
- (Optional) Name your rule.
- Configure the rule. For example, to block all incoming connections to the SSH service from IP address 198.51.100.1 (assuming the default SSH port is used), set Match direction in on Incoming, Action at Deny, Port at TCP 22, and feed 198.51.100.1 in at the field Sources.
- After you have configured the rule, click on Save, click on Apply Changes and then on Apply.
The firewall configuration changes are now in effect.
Important: Be careful when creating custom rules so that you don’t accidentally block connections to ports used by Plesk services.
Delete custom rules
- Select one or more custom rules to delete. Only custom rules can be deleted.
- Click on Remove, click on Yes, remove, click on Apply Changes and then on Apply.
The firewall configuration changes are now in effect.
