Here’s how to test the network speed of your VPS

Our VPS have an average network limit of 320MB per second with a short-term “burst” potential of 1000MB per second. Whether this speed is actually achieved depends on several factors such as the path to the remote server, or the remote application itself. The average network limit is the maximum average speed allowed for a short period of time. This means that a VPS may be able to use higher transfer rates in short “bursts,” but on average it never exceeds the specified rate of 320MB per second.

Follow the steps below to test the network speed of your VPS yourself

Here’s how to test the network speed of your VPS

  1. Connect to your VPS via SSH
  2. Install speedtest-cli
sudo apt update && sudo apt install speedtest-cli
  3. Run speedtest-cli and choose a test location
    sudo speedtest-cli --list
  4. Then choose a nearby location, for example, 61186: KPN B.V.
    speedtest-cli --server 61186

The results are displayed in Megabits. One megabit per second is equivalent to 0.125 MB per second. The results below show a download speed of 1722.62 Mbit/s, which is about 215 MB/second, and an upload speed of 1263.59 Mbit/s, which is almost 158 MB/second.
