Importing external mail into Zimbra mail
In some cases it is not possible to transfer mail to your new Zimbra mailbox via imapsync (in mail migrations). You may also want to transfer an export of an old mailbox from Outlook, Apple mail or Outlook for Mac to Zimbra mail. In that case, you must first ensure that the .pst, .olm or Mbox file is converted to a .tgz file. .tgz is the format of the Zimbra mail. In the steps below, we will explain how to import the .tgz file to your mailbox.
Just make sure you have a .tgz file first. Online you can find several converters that make this possible.
Importing mail into Zimbra mail
Importing mail into the Zimbra webmail (zimbra-login.net) is very easy.
- Login at zimbra-login.net
- Go to the cog wheel at the top right
- Click on ‘Settings’
- Go to “Accounts” and select your account, right on the > down icon
- Scroll through until you see ‘Import’
- Choose the .tgz file
- Click on ‘Import’
- Click on ‘Save’
The import, provided the correct format, will be completed and all mail will appear in your mailbox.
