.nl Control: no changes without signature
.nl Control is interesting if your domain name is of great value. Or if abuse can cause a lot of damage, such as with a webshop. Then extra control is definitely worth considering. When you activate .nl Control for a domain name, all important changes will first go through you or the person you designate for that purpose.
How does .nl Control work?
For a domain name for which .nl Control is enabled, the SIDN will check all requests for change. SIDN will call you and ask you for your signature on the change. Even when you want to change something yourself. Additional terms and conditions of the SIDN apply to .nl Control .
These changes are subject to the protection
- changes to domain name data:
- holder,administrative contact, technical contact
- nameserver
- domain name transfer
- domain name override
- a domain name with .nl Control can never expire
- Changing the glue records of the in-zone nameserver and/or DNSSEC key material (optional)

What procedure is used for changes
The request for a change is submitted to us in the normal way, just as for a .nl domain name without .nl Control. Because it concerns a .nl Control domain name, the change is not automatically processed, but manually assessed by SIDN. For this assessment, besides the agreement of the registrant by telephone, written proof of the assignment, with a signature, is requested. The content of the change will be described in detail to the registrant.
Lead time
At the time of application, we generally contact the registrant the same day for verbal approval. Following this, we will ask for written confirmation. For written confirmation, we depend on the responsiveness of the registrant/agent. We only do this during our business hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Optional glue record and DNSSEC key material protection
In the normal .nl Control variant, DNSSEC changes are processed automatically. In addition to the normal variant, we also have a variant that includes glue record protection. In addition to glue record protection, this variant also requires explicit approval for DNSSEC changes. We call this variant ‘.nl Control including glue record protection’.
